Hillcrest will name former South Carolina and Western Carolina quarterback Bennett Swygert its next football coach, according to athletic director Dale Nelson. Swygert will replace Anthony Frate, who left Hillcrest for Wren following a 9-2 season in 2022 . A Summerville alumni and part of its 1998 state championship team, Swygert signed with South Carolina and was there for two seasons, redshirting in 2002 and backed-up Dondrial Pinkins in 2003. He then transferred to Western Carolina in his redshirt sophomore year, where he would finish his college career.
