Trident Healthcare is reporting the elimination of universal masking at all of its campuses effective immediately — with several exceptions, as detailed in a March 3 press release. The healthcare provider attributed the decision to a decreasing prevalence of COVID in the community. Trident Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jane Appleby stated that the following individuals would still be required to cover up with a mask: • Individuals who have not received the flu shot • Staff who are caring for COVID patients • Patients who have upper respiratory illness • Immunocompromised patients • Staff and guests who have symptoms of a viral illness Requests by patients and/or guests for staffers to wear masks, it was noted, will be honored.
