The South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association has named Summerville junior Yannick Smith the 2023 Class AAAAA Boys Player of the Year. Smith led the Green Wave to a region championship, No. 4 ranking among 5A teams and into the third round of the state playoffs. Fellow Summerville junior Melvin Teal was also named to the 5A All-State Team. Junior Jahlil Hope represents Ashley Ridge on the All-State Team. He led the Swamp Foxes into the second round of the state playoffs. Summerville finished the season with a 24-5 record while Ashley Ridge finished at 17-9.
